 Tuomo Kangasmaan näyttely Kohtalon hiljainen kutsu on poeettinen ja ajatteluun kutsuva kokonaisuus, jossa taiteilijan henkilökohtaiset arkistot – vanhat sanomalehdet, valokuvat ja tavarat – saavat uuden merkityksen osana esteettistä ja filosofista tutkielmaa säilyttämisestä, muistista ja ajasta.​

Oulun Kaijonharjussa vetämäni avoimet valokuvakävelyt huipentuvat nyt ulkoilmanäyttelynä Kaijonharjun ympäristössä ja ensiviikolla julkaistaan vielä pienlehti aiheesta. Karttoja jonka avulla voi kävellä teosten luo löytyy Kaijonharjun Kirjastosta.

The open photo walks held in Oulu's Kaijonharju culminate in an outdoor exhibition. Photo works can be found around Kaijonharju. Continuing in Next week a small Zine type of magazine will be published. You can get maps from the Kaijonharjun Library, which you can use to walk to the works.

dérive – kuljeskelu

 

Olet tässä -yhteisöllinen taideprojekti aloittaa yhteiset kuljeskelut Pikisaaressa. Tervetuloa mukaan kuljeskelemaan yhdessä Pikisaareen torstaina 6.5.2021 kello 18. Kuljeskelu alkaa Art Hub Pikisaaresta kello 18. Kuljemme yhdessä entiselle Korkeasaaren sahan-alueelle, jossa Riitta Prittinen-Maarala kertoo teräsjuurisesta puusta. Matkalla poikkeamme Pikisaarta kiertävältä polulta tutkimaan ympäristöä ja kartuttamaan kokemuksia. Toivottavasti myös inspiroidumme!

Dérive tarkoittaa kuljeskelua, harhailua, ajelehtimista ja poikkeamaa. Se on kuljeskelua kaupunkiympäristössä, jossa sallitaan ympäristön tai hetken mielijohteen johdattaa matkaa ja päästetään irti tavanomaisista liikkumisen motiiveista ja seurataan ympäristöstä nousevia impulsseja, annetaan paikkojen ja maaston vetää puoleensa ja vaikuttaa tunteisiin. ”Kuljeskelua” on kehittänyt 1950-luvulla erityisesti rankalainen taiteilija Guy Debord. Hänen mukaansa Dérive on viehättävän epämääräistä harhailua maantieteellisessä tilassa.

Yhteisöllinen Olet tässä -taideprojekti käynnistyy!

Minna ja Tuomo Kangasmaan vetämässä taideprojektissa tutkitaan Oulun Pikisaaren nykyisyyttä ja historiaa.
Yli vuoden mittainen projekti toteutetaan Pikisaaressa yhdessä asukkaiden ja alueella vaikuttavien toimijoiden kanssa.
– Olet tässä -projekti käsittelee ihmisen toimintaa osana fyysistä, sosiaalista ja kulttuurista ympäristöä. Kantavana ajatuksena on osallistujien henkilökohtainen suhde ympäristöönsä; tutkimuskohteena ovat niin yksilölle, perheelle kuin paikallisyhteisöllekin merkitykselliset paikat, tapahtumat ja tarinat, Minna ja Tuomo Kangasmaa kuvailevat. Luvassa on muun muassa arkeologisia kävelyjä, vierailuja, tarinoiden tallentamista jne.

CATHERINE LUDWIG: NATURE TRANSFORMATIONS Exhibition opens on 7th of January 2020 at 17:00

“In my work, I deal with different epochs, periods and spaces. Among other things, there are questions about leisure and culture in connection with (pretended) nature and public space. Who can use the public space and for what? What concept of nature are established and how do these ideas on the other hand form spaces that are accessible for tourism purposes? There is a desire for untouched nature that is marketed in pictures, but in reality, it can hardly be found anymore. In the age of the Anthropocene we are threatened with the loss of the experience of nature, because almost everything is developed, climbed and exploited. We are part of the nature and are well on our way to sustainably damaging it. But we, the humans, are the loser in the long term. Because nature reacts according to its own laws, it is impossible to negotiate with it in the traditional sense. It is characteristic of humankind that our interventions in nature backfire on us..."

The first exhibition of Neliö-Galleria in 2020 will feature works by Viennese artist Catherine Ludwig. In 2020, Neliö-Galleria will celebrate its 35th anniversary by taking a step towards more international program and activities. One of these steps is the collaboration with international Hotel Infinity collective founded by Oulu-based sculptor Minna Kangasmaa. The aim of the collaboration is to bring new, interesting contemporary art to Northern Finland, and to offer opportunities for local artists to showcase their work in more international arenas.

Neliö-Galleria, an art gallery located in Oulu, is one of the oldest private art galleries in Northern Finland. In September 2018, it became the first private artist-run gallery in Oulu, when the painter Kirsi Tervo began to maintain the gallery. Each year, the gallery presents 12-13 high-profile exhibitions in the fine arts and has always free entry for the public. In addition, Neliö-Galleria is also the organiser of the Small Northern Art Week, a one-week intensive exhibition displaying the current works of local artists.

The first co-organized international exhibition at Neliö-Galleria will feature works of Viennese artist Catherine Ludwig, a member of the Hotel infinity collective. Catherine Ludwig’s solo exhibition NATURE TRANSFORMATIONS is shown at Neliö-Galleria in Oulu from 7th of January until 2nd of February 2020.

Neliö-Galleria welcomes all to the the opening of the exhibition, on 7th of January at 17:00-19:00!

Catherine Ludwig, a Bavarian artist born in 1976, has been living and working in Vienna for nearly two decades. Ludwig is a transmedia artist and transcends the barriers between different media in both her work process and end result.
Ludwig has studied graphic design for five years in Nurnberg and transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts (prof. Kowanz) in Vienna. Her diploma yielded the award of Kunsthalle Wien in 2006.
Singe 2004, Ludwig has represented in numerous international and national exhibitions, and her works are available at the collection of Ursula Brickle Video archives. Recently she has participated in artist-in-residences in Taipei 2006, Berlin 2007, Sochi 2011, Hartheim 2012, Judenburg (A) 2013, Laugarvatn (IS) 2013, Detroit 2014, Gmunden 2015, Jakobstad (FI) 2016, Eckernförde (G) 2016, Bucharest (RO) 2017, and Switzerland (CH).

Tuomo Kangasmaa will work in Muhu A.I. Residency in 2017

Muhu A.I. Residency has published the list of year 2017 art-residents.

Tuomo Kangasmaa, filmmaker and artist, has been selected for one-month residency in Muhu Estonia. There Kangasmaa will be working with his photo-based work called Hidden Details.

Hidden Details will be shown in Helsinki at Kaapeli Gallery in 2018.

Juha Allan Ekholm and Tuomo Kangasmaa made an artwork called Research Center of Site-specific Art to the Oranki Art Environmental Park during the International Oranki Art -symposium 20. - 26.6.2016. The Research Center of Site-specific Art is a part of continuous work in-progress.

The Oranki Art Environmental Park is located in Oranki, a small village in county of Pello, situated to North Finland and Western Lapland about 40 kilometers up from the Arctic Circle.

International Oranki Art -symposium and the exhibition has been organized since 2001, and over the years there has been participating over 150 artists from Finland and abroad. In Oranki Art Environmental Park has a collection of about 50 site-specific artworks. Some art works last only one season until merges with nature and some changes their appearance year by year.

KULTTUURIHÄIRINTÄÄ 1 POLARIZED! VISION -ELOKUVA- JA MEDIATAIDETAPAHTUMASSA ROVANIEMELLÄ

Rovaniemellä järjestetään 20.–22.11.2015 toisen kerran POLARIZED! Vision -tapahtuma, joka esittelee monimuotoisia ja ajatuksia herättäviä lyhytelokuvia pohjoisesta. Tapahtuma sisältää elokuvakilpailun, lyhytelokuvanäytöksiä, seminaarin sekä muuta oheisohjelmaa. Tämän vuoden teemana on kulttuurihäirintä.

AV-arkin näytöksessä lauantaina 21.11. klo 18 nähdään valikoima festivaalijakelussa kiitettyjä ja palkittuja, uusimpia teoksia viime vuosilta. Näytös on koottu yhdessä POLARIZED! Visionin kanssa.

UPPSALA INTERNATIONAL SHORT FILM FESTIVAL 2015

The experimental short films Forêt Shell (2015) by Tuomo Kangasmaa 

have been selected for the Uppsala International Short Film Festival.

Forêt Shell presents an urban story and its setting in Northern Finland. There used to be a service station along a highway outside a small town, a popular stopping place for travellers and meeting place for the youth in the 1960s-80s. Local people called it “Forest Shell” (Forêt Shell in French). The examination of the urban story and personal memories from the service station of the past as well as historical facts blend into a narrative and myth on the video.

Fôret Shell will also be screened at the 28th Festival Les Instants Vidéo, organised in Marseille, France between November 6 and 29, 2015.

Forêt Shell is distributed by AV-arkki. AV-arkki is the Distribution Centre for Finnish Media Art. AV-arkki distributes and promotes Finnish media art to festivals, events, museums and galleries worldwide.

LUMIPALLOEFEKTI

Rovaniemen taidemuseon kesänäyttely esittelee Pohjois-Suomen taidetta laajasti.
Lumipalloefekti kääntää katseen Rovaniemelle. Näyttely esittää monimuotoisen
otoksen tämän hetkisestä pohjoisesta nykytaiteesta. Näyttely on Korundissa ja
Arktikumin gallerioissa 12.6.–28.9.2014. Näyttelyn kuraattoriksi on kutsuttu
helsinkiläinen FM Laura Köönikkä, joka vastikään perusti Helsinkiin taidepalveluja
tarjoavan toimiston Finnish Art Agencyn.

Hildegard Projekt: Haute Sculpture on Radio Študent

On a show on Radio Študent, entitled Fine umetnosti, journalist Miha Turk gave his review about the exhibition Hildegard Projekt: Haute Sculpture. He said that the exhibition brings an interesting reflexion about the creative process, where the exhibition itself is just a cherry on top of the whole process.

On the website of Radio Študent we can read the following words: »In one room, there is just a projection of a picture of eleven empty chairs and in the corner of the last room artworks are crammed as if they were stored in a depot. It is not clear if the result was the intention of the artists from the beginning or the conceptual nature of the exhibition is the outcome of some kind of a complication, which can happen when working in a group. But this is not actually important. Works, packed in the last room, are very meaningful. On one hand the physical material gives the alibi to the conceptually strong statement in other, almost empty, spaces. The artworks itself are the most abstract part of the exhibition. By itself they are just requisites, which indirectly give meaning and value to the biographies of the artists, who struggle from project to project. Projects, which have a practical value just because they enable the following projects.«

AV-arkki & Arktisen upeeta elokuvafestivaali juhlivat yhdessä! 13.-16.2.2014, Jyväskylässä

Arktisen upeeta -elokuvafestivaalin 15. juhlavuosi alkaa torstaina 13. helmikuuta Jyväskylässä. AV-arkki täyttää kuluvana vuonna 25 vuotta. Arktisen upeeta ja AV-arkki juhlistavat tätä yhteisellä erikoisohjelmistolla.

Wieniläisten taiteilijoiden Flat1 –gallerian käynnistämä Entry_Exit näyttelysarja rantautuu Helsinkiin Oksasenkatu 11 galleriaan 24.5. – 9.6.2013.

Entry_Exit on jatkoa viime vuonna Itävallan Wienissä galleria Flat1:ssä toteutetulle viiden suomalaisen kuvataiteilijan ryhmänäyttelylle. Helsingin näyttely jatkaa näyttelysarjaa, jonka ideana on järjestää eri taiteilijaryhmittymien kanssa yhteistyössä kansainvälistä näyttelyvaihtoa. Näyttelyitä on ollut Itävallassa, Ranskassa ja Sveitsissä.

Oksasenkatu 11 taiteilijakollektiivin kanssa järjestettävässä Entry_Exit -näyttelyssä on esillä kaksi kokonaisuutta: Itävaltalaisten taiteilijoiden näyttely Me olemme kriisi 23.-26.5.2013 ja suomalaisten taiteilijoiden Wienissä esillä ollut näyttelyBesides Beauty 1.-9.6.2013.
